Звернення Генерального консула України в Торонто
Ігора Лоссовського до учасників Урочистого прийняття з нагоди
15-ої річниці Незалежності України
The Most Reverend Fathers!
Distinguished guests!
Members of the Parliament, Senator, Ministers!
My dear colleagues-Consuls General!
Ladies and Gentlemen!
Dear friends!
.
We have gathered here to celebrate the 15th Anniversary
of the Ukraine’s Independence in the circle of our good friends.
15 years have passed since Ukraine was proclaimed an Independent
State in 1991. Speaking today about major achievements of
my country during the years of its independence and about
where Ukraine stands today, I would like to point out the
three major achievements of the Nation has constituted the
basis of modern Ukraine:
First, it is the proclamation of Ukraine’s Independence itself;
Second, formation of state institutions and working out the
national policy directed at Euro-Atlantic and European integration;
Third, upsurge of the civic spirit and victory of the democracy
in 2004.
It means that the new independent Ukraine was born and there
is no way back. Despite numerous difficulties, problems, instability
inside the country, Ukraine has picked up its own national
pace on the way to freedom, justice and prosperity.
All this time Ukraine felt strong support of the Canadian
Government and our brothers and sisters from the Maple Leaf
Country. Beginning from the time when the first Ukrainian
immigrants in the 19th century stepped on Canadian soil, the
Ukrainian community of Canada has never stopped loving their
first Motherland, cherishing and preserving our traditions,
culture and Ukrainian language. They shared our joy and pain.
They supported the Orange Revolution and other democratic
developments in my country. Ukraine treasures and needs your
valuable assistance and spiritual support as there is still
a long and complicated way with new great challenges and tasks
a head.
It is my great pleasure to express my sincere gratitude to
the Government of Canada and all the Canadians who were the
first western nation to recognize Ukrainian Independence in
1991. Ever since Ukraine and Canada have established many
different and strong ties: political, economical, cultural,
social and other.
Let me congratulate all of you on the 15th Anniversary of
Independence of Ukraine and express words of gratitude to
all those who made a contribution to struggle of Ukrainian
nation for better and brighter future, to the development
of the Ukrainian-Canadian mutually beneficial cooperation.
In the end of my speech I would like to announce that my
term of duties as the Consul General of Ukraine in Canada
is expiring and I am going back home on October 1, 2006.
It is yet another turning point in my life. On the one hand,
I am very glad to return home and accept new professional
challenges. On the other hand, this is a very sad event, because
I got so connected to this country and people, my colleagues
and new friends that I am leaving a part of my heart here,
in Canada.
Looking back at the years spent in this beautiful country,
I have to acknowledge that I’ve always tried to do my best
to serve my country-Ukraine and my people. It was easy for
me, because there have always been good friends beside me
who were eager to render their helping hand. I am grateful
to the Canadian and Ontario officials, the Ukrainian community,
Ukrainian-Canadian Congress, other community organizations,
my colleagues from Consular missions for their continuous
understanding, support and cooperation.
Thank you, my friends, it was my great pleasure and honour
to work with you side by side all these years. I wish you
new great achievements in all your endeavors, professional
careers and other activities, personal happiness and prosperity,
good luck and God’s blessing.
Слава Україні!
